Dear Dad,
A Memorial Day Message
memorial (noun)- something that keeps remembrance alive.
I originally had decided to not post anything today. Just to enjoy a peaceful Memorial Day in my own way.
But writing something just continued to linger on my mind all day.
And something I think I needed to write for myself, more than anyone else.
So there won’t be much fitness in this post. But there will be a lot of what makes me who I am.
Dear Dad,
I remembered you today how I always try to do. By doing something physically challenging, usually a ruck. Today it was the usual.
Just like the rucks I remember watching you come home from every weekend. Just like the pool workouts you would let me come sit and watch after you had a full day of work.
Hard work doesn’t care how tired you are. It only cares who will still get it done.
I’ll always be grateful for you teaching me that.
Today, I read some of the notes I would write you when you were deployed. I guess I’m still that little kid writing letters to you. So much has changed, yet so much has stayed the same.
Never grow up right?
Be the goofiest person in the room. People need to laugh. It’s good for them.
I’ll always be grateful for you teaching me that.
I made sure to trick mom into eating some chocolate today. Quite successfully I might add. Until she reads this I don’t even think she’ll have caught on.
Admittedly, It wasn’t chocolate cake. We’ve been on a bit of a health kick (it’s kinda my thing now) but it was delicious nonetheless.
You can always make some room for a sweet treat. Sometimes that’s half a cake and half a gallon of ice cream mixed into a slop bowl.
I’ll always be grateful for you teaching me that.
-Love you big dawg, always!
To those of you that have lost someone and this day stings a bit more than others… I hope you find a way to remember them.
Whether it’s something they use to do, watch, eat, read, or say.
Just find something that keeps their memory alive.
+1

Surely the righteous will never be shaken; they will be remembered forever.🫡
Thank you for writing this! You’re the best! And I never would have realized you tricked me unless I read it!
